Murder at Midnight

It is the evening of 3 July 1776 and the Lady Midnight has sailed into Boston Harbour, just in time to see the birth of the new nation.  On board is a group of emigrants from the Old World pursuing various hopes and dreams in the New World.  But as you gather for a celebratory meal in the Captain's cabin, one guest is missing.

The body of Lord 'Lucky' Farquhar has been found in his cabin.  He has been murdered and someone has killed him.   Luckily an English constable, Michael McClue, is also on board and will help you find the killer.

The suspects are:

Captain Pigwash - A salty seadog, who rules the ship as his own private kingdom.  He has so little respect for convention and law that he sometimes seems to be a pirate rather than a merchant seaman.

Abraham Washington - A radical lawyer whose championing of the underdog in society has caused him some trouble.  His departure from England is partly to escape the authorities and partly to assist the American revolution.

Aretha Washington - A fervent feminist, married to Abraham Washington.  Her passionate campaigning for women's rights has made her even more hated than her husband, and she is expecting a more congenial society in the New World.

Lord Bristol Twin-Bore - An aristocrat with a reputation for a debauched lifestyle, he has been appointed Governor of New Bristol.  No one's sure whether he has genuinely turned over a new leaf.

Lady Josephine Twin-Bore - The twin sister of Lord Bristol Twin-Bore, she is accompanying him on his new posting.  Like him, she has attracted a reputation for dissolute living.

Beryl Sheep - She is the most famous actress in all Europe:  wealthy, glamorous and successful.  Together with Diana Rose, she has come to entertain the colonies.  Perhaps because of her triumphs, there have been some rumours about but they are not all true.

Extra guests include:  (non-suspects)

Diana Rose - An unfeasibly glamorous star of the London and Paris stages, she is one of the greatest singers of the time.  Now she is aiming to conquer the New World with her colleague Beryl Sheep.

Rev. Anthony Blairwitch - An intense, perhaps even fanatical preacher, he is known to be capable of finding a witch in the happiest of homes.  Severe and stern, there are some who find him a bit creepy.
